DNA and More Health Care picks

DNA(Genentech) came through for us all on late Friday when the FDA decided to stop blocking every drug they could and approved the breast cancer drug Avastin. Experts were putting it from 30-35% chance but the FDA came through and the stock is up nine percent after hours.

Biotech/health care/Pharma is a live by the sword, die by the sword world but if you wish to live in it here, here are a couple big dates I see in the near future. (All dates are tentative).

Feb 28th - Theravance(THRX) - FDA gives decision on drug for MRSA

March 5th - Pfizer(PFE) - Having a huge conference for their investors and industry peers. Vital information regarding the trials of many drugs in their pipeline and takeover possibilities will be on the plateau.

March 13th - Amgen(AMGN) - An FDA panel takes up possibly recommending new restrictions on the use of their embattled anemia drugs for cancer patients dealing with the side effects of chemo.

March 14th - Genentech (DNA) - Meets with Wallstreet and much news expected.

End of March - Merck(MRK) and Schering-Plough(SGP) - At the American College of Cardiology conference in Chicago these two companies will defend and give information on the drug Vytorin which is a highly debated cholesterol drug.

Of course in this world, there is news everyday. I'll try to keep you posted. Also check out the best Pharma blog on the web(in the Bull's opinion) at:

Bull, I am new to your blog so I don't know if you have discussed energy stocks yet. With the continued rise in oil, does it make sense to jump into solar stocks (FSLR & SPWR). It looks like the short term run-up is over but am I crazy to think these could still go further? I especially like SPWR since it was founded by a tree-hugger but is now being managed by a true capitalist.

Big Daddy,

Solar stocks(such as the two you mention) are stocks I would personally try to stay away from. If I had to go either way, I would be Long in them over being short in them.

FSLR is also my favorite Solar Play due to its low cost structure and unlimited potential.

Here is a good link to more "informed" views on solar stocks.

bull, what would you do about DNA on monday? I'm thinking about selling half at the open tomorrow and riding the rest for a couple weeks, what do you think?

The Bull said...

It is always good to sell some of your profit. DNA could continue to go higher as there cancer drug has not 100% been officially allowed yet and when/if this happens the stock probably belongs in the low 80's. I could be wrong but I don't see this stock doing much(as there is not much news until March 14th for it). But in the Biotech world you never know what the next day will hold.

Truly amuses me to see that people think they have figured out who you are. I laughed out loud at the hedge fund manager in Houston.

The true BULL is much greater than any hedge fund manager or Wall Steet LACKEY. Its always an honor to kick back and have a beer with you, Bull.

My friends and I will release our information shortyly

The Bull is none other than......

Anonymous said...

GEOFFERY BOISI - Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs.

Our research led us in many different directions before narrowing down to 10 candiates. We checked the Bulls picks against the picks of Goldman/UBS/ect and we have found out through various sources that the CEO of GOldman is the Bull.

Listen to this guy people

Anonymous said...

Nick,

You are a fucking idiot, Boisi doesn't even run goldmabn anymore. Get a fucking clue

The Bull is Benhamin Graham. If you look at articles and quotes by Graham they are close to the arrogance the Bull shows.

Also there investing styles seem to be the same.

THE BULL IS BRITISH

You all gay

Anonymous said...

Bull is GOD

Anonymous said...

George Soros is the Bull

Anonymous said...

I agree, Soros seems to be him. They both are out of their mind and filthy rich

Anonymous said...

I think I got it narrowed down more later, but it looks like he does live and work in NYC near 5th and 18th

Anonymous said...

Mike,

He is 100% a wallstreet guy, no one else would know this stuff or have this insight to FDA/BONDS/ect inside information

Anonymous said...

Call me an insider.

Anonymous said...

So far not ONE of you guys has even come close to figuring out who the great Bull is.

Trust me (not like you have any reason to...but you still should)

Anonymous said...

Comparing his picks to none other, the Bull is none ofther than Jim FUCKING Cramer.

While the picks vary a lot, they all have the same theme, low p/e, large foreign investment, large dividends.

Cramer is the Bull

Anonymous said...

The Bull is the Million Dollar Man, I just don't know who the Million Dollar Man is lol.

Anonymous said...

big add....you talk out of your ass

Anonymous said...

Here is my thinking,

(A) Big time Hedge Fun guy looking for someone to pat his ass saying nice job.

(B) someone at Goldman/Citi/JP ect that feels like they are underappreciated.

(C) - Buffet/Soros/Lampert/Ichan/Tenet/Loopez/Killinger

Anonymous said...

Maybe he is some 8th grader who is just picking stocks out of nowhere
